A Day and a Life in the Antarctic.

A Day and A Life in the Antarctic.

Last Thursday 22 August we all took a trip to the Antarctic Centre. Before we had even bordered the bus we were full of excitement and anticipation and on arrival we were not disappointed. The centre is large and imposing but the friendly, cheerful staff made us feel welcomed and our excitement just continued to build.
Once inside, we quickly were introduced to one of the main attractions, the gorgeous Little Blue Penguin. These small feathered friends were delightful and we could have stayed there all day watching them. However there was other fun and learning to be had, soon we were strapping ourselves into the Huggland Ride. 'Wow' what an experience being thrown around inside this amazing piece of machinery, we were all very grateful that we had securely fastened our seat belts.
Next we were being blown around the ice room and we were pleased that we had worn our jackets, gloves, scarves and hats. It was great watching the tamariki really enjoying themselves in the simulated icy conditions after which we could quite believe that the Antarctic is the coldest and windiest place on earth.
One other real highlight was the 4D movie that we watched depicting the beauty of the Antarctic area. After watching the movie and feeling the sea spray in our faces, there wasn't one person that wouldn't have jumped at the chance to visit this remote place. We all learnt so about this amazing part of the world and thoroughly enjoyed our 'Day and a Life in the Antarctic.'
